Artist Bio/Resume`
JaMario Beard is what some would call a self-taught artist. Ever since he was attending William Penn Elementary school, he has been perfecting his gift and broadening his horizons. He graduated with an Associates Degree in Graphic Design from Oklahoma State University, Okmulgee campus. Commercial art has become one of his strongest talents with a growing influence from graffiti, Hip Hop, Gangsta rap and urban culture. He also pulls from styles of art deco, impressionism, cubism art nouveau and ancient Egyptian art. He focuses his message on American Black History and the legacy of Tulsa’s “Black Wall Street” located on Greenwood.
I was once told that if something angers you or grieves your spirit, then you have found your cause. His cause is to empower others by imparting a message and themes of knowledge, wisdom and truth into their minds through art. Art is a universal language. A picture says a thousand words and ever observer interprets something different. My people perish from a lack of knowledge.
A native of Tulsa, OK. who started drawing at the age of 3 and never stopped throughout my education. In high school I enrolled in advertising design where my interest was sparked to pursue a career in art. A teacher—Paul King took me on a field trip to OSU-Okmulgee Tech. While on the field trip, Then he knew that he would be back there some day. Upon returning to Okmulgee Tech Ja Mario Beard refined his skills and discovered what He wanted to be when he grew up!Three years later,Obtaining an Associates Degree in Graphic Design.
After graduating, He began working with an African American business owner Bern Gentry of The Penn Man
This was the spark! So kept my creative juices flowing through personal projects, by hand illustration
inspired by inspirational spiritual books. When I got a computer, I updated the designs into Original digital works of art with concepts. phases and expressions from spiritual influences like books and leaders etc..
For print in posters, t-shirts, merchandising. Using a MAC CS3 back then it was old. It wasn’t until I started having surgeries and a major seizure, did began painting consistantly. What started me on my art journey drawing detailed portraits and type design. I began doing abstract painting. While discovering the business side of art.
While using acrylic painting of all kinds like neon, glitter, metallic, glow in the dark expressions.These color experiments, I like to call them. abstract compositions depicting the many surfaces like rust, steal, old metal, pallets and other things with unique surfaces at work. How the bumps, scrapes wear and tear on life makes us who we are.
